GREAT HANG UP- The Teen Brain
News

DAVIS, CA - It probably comes as no surprise that a teen brain works differently than that of an adult. Now, research at the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain is highlighting the discrepancies between the two.

Dr. Amanda Guyer says the frontal portion of the brain that processes information and the deeper section that deals with emotions are unbalanced in teens versus the adult brain. MRI Scans even show more blood flow to one area over another.

These findings may explain why teens are often more influenced by emotion and also why information on danger and risk is not processed as comprehensively.

Guyer suggests one takeaway message is to be aware of the impact other teens may have in certain situations. When around other teens, emotions can be triggered that can override informational processing, including when driving.
