WINTERS, CA - Kids and their parents were being warned about a man who tried to pick up a boy walking alone early Sunday evening.
Yolo County sheriff's Sgt. Lance Faille said the 10 year old was walking along Russell Boulevard near Brinley Drive in Winters at 6 p.m. when a man in a gold-colored car stopped and told the boy to get in his car.
The boy instead ran to a nearby neighbor's house where the sheriff's office was called. The boy was unhurt.
The boy told deputies he had never seen the man or his car before.
Faille said the boy described the man as Hispanic, 20 to 30 years old and overweight. He was bald and clean-shaven. He wore a black t-shirt and a gold chain around his neck.
The man's car was further described as an older model sedan that was very dusty, as if it had been driven in a field, Faille said.
The sheriff's office contacted Waggoner Elementary School, Shirley Rominger Intermediate School and Winters Middle School to request that students and their parents be notified about the incident and to go over safety advice about strangers.
Anyone who knows something about this wold-be abductor or incident was urged to call the Yolo County Sheriff's Office at (530) 668-5280.
