Judge: Pepper spray officers' names must be released | News

SACRAMENTO, CA - More than six months after campus officers used pepper spray on protesters at UC Davis, an appeals judge in the Alameda Superior Court has ruled that their names must be made public.

The ruling came down Tuesday from Judge Evelio Grillo and was the result of a lawsuit filed by the Sacramento Bee and the Los Angeles Times. The original ruling stated that the officers names could be redacted from reports.

The Federal University Police Officers Association, which represents campus officers, has been fighting to keep the officers names from being disclosed.

According to the Bee the names will not be immediately released. Judge Grillo's order has been stayed through July 27 in order to give the FUPOA time to file an appeal.
