This post is sponsored by got milk? in partnership with local California organizations that educate kids about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle.
You know how they say “don’t judge a book by its cover?” I’m a good example of that saying; on the surface, my blog is full of unhealthy desserts, but in real life I actually focus on eating well and leading a healthy lifestyle 98% of the time. So when I heard about the new partnership between got milk? and THINK Together, I jumped on board to support this important cause.
THINK Together supports afterschool programs for children and their parents to make wholesome, real and simple food choices for a healthy lifestyle. got milk? is raising money for THINK Together and other similar programs by selling limited edition milk glasses. You can buy them here only until August 5th.
The glasses are part of the latest got milk? campaign, “Science of Imitation Milk,” which educates California consumers of the long list of hard-to-pronounce ingredients in imitation milk. One glass has the long list of ingredients in imitation milk (carrageenan, zinc gluconate, riboflavin to name a few) and the other glass has the simple list of real milk ingredients: milk and vitamin D3.
Every dollar raised from the sale of these glasses goes toward helping kids understand nutrition and the importance of healthy lifestyles. You can buy your glasses at gotmilk.com.
In honor of this got milk? campaign, I made a simple, healthy recipe with real milk. These smoothies are a snap to put together and are almost like a healthy milkshake. If you add a thickener, it would really be like a healthy milkshake. As it is, it’s a protein-filled smoothie that tastes like chocolate, peanut butter and banana without tons of sugar or unhealthy fats.
I used PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter, which is peanut butter with all the oil removed so it becomes a powder. You can mix it with water to make peanut butter or just add the powder to smoothies for the flavor without the added calories and fat. The chocolate PB2 has added cocoa powder, so of course I opted for that flavor. I also used an organic chocolate protein powder that is sweetened with stevia.
This smoothie is great for refueling after a workout but tastes like dessert!
Recipe:
Chocolate PB Banana Smoothie
- 1.5 Tbsp organic chocolate protein powder
- 1 cup real milk (I used nonfat but you can use any kind)
- PB2 chocolate peanut butter or 1 Tbsp peanut butter
- 1 frozen banana
- 3 ice cubes
Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Add additional PB2 to taste or peanut butter to taste. If it isn’t chocolately enough for you, add a little unsweetened cocoa powder. Enjoy immediately.
As part of the Foodbuzz Featured Publisher Program, I received a stipend and got milk? glassware in exchange for my participation in this program.
