Free Child Passenger Safety Seat Check-Up Event | Events
The start of the school year is the start of a daily commute for both parents and their children.Keeping your children safe as they head back to school is a top priority for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Safe Kids Greater Sacramento. CHP and Safe Kids have teamed up to conduct a FREE car seat check-up event. A new California law effective January 1, 2012, extends the length of time a child must use a child passenger restraint or safety seat by two additional years while riding in a motor vehicle.
The new law means child passengers must ride in either a car seat or booster seat until the age of eight or until they are 4 feet 9 inches tall.
Child safety seats save lives. National studies show three out of four kids are not as secure in vehicles as they should be, because their car seats are not being used correctly. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) urges parents and guardians to reduce the risk of death and injury to their children by allowing a certified car seat technician to properly secure their child. Child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used properly, can prevent injuries and save lives.
Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to check car seats for proper installation and advise parents and caregivers how to choose the right car seats and install them properly in their vehicles. Call to schedule an appointment with the Safe Kids car seat program, led by California Highway Patrol – Woodland Area, at (530) 662-4685.
Funding for CHP’s program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
