2 arrested in Woodland after vehicle, foot pursuit | Crime
WOODLAND, CA - Two men were arrested in Woodland on Sunday night after an unsuccessful attempt to evade arrest, said Sgt. Steve Guthrie of the Woodland Police Department.
According to Guthrie, Geovaughno Belli, 20, of West Sacramento and Roberto Rojas, 22, of Woodland were spotted by officers around 5:00 p.m. in the area of Co Rd. 102 and E. Beamer St. driving a Honda Accord previously reported stolen.
The officer followed the men for a short distanced before pulling them over on N. Pioneer Ave as assisting officers arrived. Belli pulled the vehicle over and both men were detained at gunpoint, said Guthrie. However, Belli suddenly restarted the vehicle and fled northbound on Pioneer with the officers in pursuit.
While fleeing, Belli attempted to make a left on Tanforan Ave. but lost control of the car and drove through several shrubs in the Woodland Municipal Service Center parking lot before hitting a cement curb. The car was rendered disabled due to a blown tire and both men exited and fled on foot, said Guthrie.
According to Guthrie, the officer who originally made the traffic stop released his K-9 service dog who caught up with and detained Rojas. Belli was eventually caught by an assisting officer and surrendered without further incident.
Belli and Rojas were taken to a nearby hospital where they were medically cleared before being booked into jail.
Belli was booked on charges of car theft, resisting arrest, evading police in a vehicle, hit and run collision, participating in criminal street gang activity, and a violation of probation.
Rojas was booked for vehicle theft, resisting arrest, and participating in criminal street gang activity.
