D.A. charges Conway-Allen suspect with murder | Crime

FAIRFIELD, CA - The Fairfield man arrested in the death of 13-year-old Genelle Conway-Allen has been charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances.

Conway-Allen's nude body was found at a Fairfield park the morning of Feb. 1. The Suisun City girl had been reported missing the day before.

Fairfield police arrested Anthony Lemar Jones, 32, a week later.

In addition to the murder charges, the Solano County District Attorney's Office says Jones faces special circumstances of murder in the commission of kidnapping, murder in the commission of rape, and murder in the commission of a lewd or lascivious act upon a minor under age 14.  Those special circumstances mean Jones could face the death penalty.

Prior to his appearance in court, public defender Leslie Caldwell asked Judge Peter Foor to exclude the media.  The judge denied the request, saying he had already limited cameras to still photography. Foor added that he thought the people and the press are entitled to reasonable coverage.

Jones entered the court wearing a black and white jail uniform.  He told the judge he no longer had a job or the means to pay for an attorney, so Caldwell was then appointed to represent him.

The judge granted a new protective order banning Jones from having any contact with his estranged wife, who had previously filed a domestic violence restraining order against Jones.

Jones' arraignment was moved to Feb. 21. He is being held on no bail.

Attorneys for both sides declined comment. Caldwell told News 10 her intent is to withhold comment throughout all future proceedings.

Family members and supporters also refused to answer questions outside the courthouse as reporters followed them to their cars.
