VALLEJO, CA (AP) - Vallejo Police say a 65-year-old man is being held on suspicion of murder for allegedly shooting and killing his two neighbors.
Sgt. Jeff Bassett said Thursday that investigators are looking into what sparked a fight between suspect Martin Hohenegger and the two men who were found dead on a front yard in the city's Glen Cove neighborhood Wednesday night.
Police say 45-minute standoff ensued as a police negotiator eventually convinced Hohenegger to come out of his home as a California Highway Patrol helicopter hovered overhead.
The names of the men, both in their 50s, have not yet been released.
Police say Hohenegger served in the Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968 and was known to own several guns.
The killings were the 17th and 18th homicides in Vallejo this year.
