Paper Clip Challenge - Building the team | Community Spirit

August has now arrived, and one week has already passed since the Olympics began. Meanwhile, less than three weeks remain before I begin my Davis Paper Clip Challenge of 2012. If you would like a status update in regards to the event, you can find it at my blog at http://paperclipchallenge.wordpress.com/2012/03/04/paperclip-challenge-2012/ At this time, I have been continuously training with the paper clips that Office Depot has so generously donated. However, before I start, I am working on assembling a team to help me accomplish my goal by looking for more members.

While we watch the Olympics and cheer on the athletes competing in the various events, we do not often think about the people backstage who have contributed to an athlete's success. This includes coaches, trainers, assistants, transportation teams, equipment handlers, and others who have worked hard to help get the athletes and their teams into competitive shape. The same thing goes for the Paper Clip Challenge. I am stil working on assembling my team.

At the moment, I have several volunteers who are willing to spend a few hours of their time to help me raise money for schools in Davis, CA. However, my team could still use a few members to help lighten the workload for my other teammates. With any event, it takes a lot of effort to reach a goal. Some work harder than others, while some make very few contributions. But everyone has a role to play, no matter how small that may be. As long as the end goal is reached, that is all that matters.

The key to reaching any goal, especially when others are involved, is teamwork. My goal is to help schools find some funding for the next school year to help alleviate some of the effects that will be felt by the severe budget cuts that will most likely happen when the next state budget is decided. I may not be able to make much of a difference by myself, but with the help of others, I can make a difference in my own local community.
