Title (Max 100 Characters)
The 22nd annual Davis Art Center Holiday Sale is upon us, November 30-December 2! This year, the Art Center is hosting more artisan vendors than ever before, with more hands-on holiday activities for kids and adults, and collaborating with more local organizations and businesses. The sale is a special, time-honored Davis tradition celebrating our community and Holiday spirit! Over 70 vendors will contribute a huge variety of exceptional, hand-made products, from scarves and clothes to toys and jewelry, all unique works of art. The Holiday Sale is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Davis Art Center, as every vendor generously donates fifteen percent of their sales back to the Art Center to help bring art into daily Davis life. With items from $2-$200, there is something for everyone at the 2012 Holiday Sale!
The Holiday Sale is a holiday destination for the whole family. You can get your holiday shopping done early at your favorite vendor, and stay for the crafts and the food. Local collaborators include Davis Pedicab, who will ferry shoppers from the Veteran’s Memorial Center parking lot to and from the Davis Art Center free of charge. Then, fend off the winter chill with a cup of gourmet, locally-sourced soup from Stonesoup Catering.
The Children’s Secret Store, one of the most popular Holiday Sale activities, is kids-only, no adults allowed! Children ages 3-12 years old are accompanied by a responsible volunteer through the store, where they can do their own shopping for parents and loved ones. All gifts are priced at a kid-friendly $1-$6. Tell your little shopper to look for the Green Table! Initiated last year, the Green Table has blossomed into a special space for the Holiday Sale, encouraging kids to shop locally and sustainably. All Green Table items are hand-crafted and sustainably made, many donated by local artists.
The Green Table has inspired year-round community art activities. The Art Center has hosted “Holiday Elves” workshops all year, in which teaching artists like Heidi Bekebrede taught children and adults to make green-table gifts. Over 50 Girls Scouts from the Girl Scouts Heart of Central California Davis Service Unit made over 300 Secret Store items, including coasters sets and book marks, from recycled materials. Almost a third of the Secret Store this year will be “green”, and the whole store is stocked with beautiful, carefully selected gifts. All Secret Store presents are wrapped inside the store, so mom and dad will just have to wait and see what was picked for them!
Other Holiday Sale activities include the Wall of Art Silent Auction. All funds from the auction go toward the Gerald Wooliever Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to high school art students. Or, you can make your own holiday craft at the Pottery Painting Room or Crafting Corner. At the Kids Kraft room your little gift-givers can make their own gifts, and new this year, a Davis Art Center Booth will showcase some goodies of our own! At 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 1st, if the weather permits, there will be a lunchtime Holiday concert featuring some of the Davis Art Center’s music and dance ensembles.
The Davis Art Center is dedicated to making art happen every day through community classes, interactive exhibits, performances and special events. When you shop at the Holiday Sale, you are supporting local artists, local businesses and the Davis Art Center, a creative cornerstone of Davis. So, come shop, play, eat, and experience an unforgettable start to the holiday season!
