Homemade Salted Caramel Mocha

Homemade Salted Caramel Mocha

Salted caramel has been a big trend for a while. I’m all for jumping on a bandwagon if it’s a delicious one, and it doesn’t get better than sweet and salty in one package. A while ago I made this wonderful salted caramel cupcakes recipe and on Friday I’ll share my recipe for salted caramel pears (like caramel apples, but with pears and a sprinkle of sea salt).

Starbucks has had a set of salted caramel beverages on its menu this fall but have you seen how many calories is in one of those things? They range from something like 300-600 calories, but the sugar content is what really made me pause (50-70 grams!). Now, you could skip dessert and have one of these instead (my coworker actually calls them “dessert in a cup”). Even so, that is a lot of sugar in one sitting... Read More

Pipe bomb found at Fairfield home

FAIRFIELD, CA - A Fairfield man came across an explosive discovery while cleaning out a house in the 300 block of Travis Boulevard on Tuesday.

According to Lieutenant Al Bagos, the man uncovered a pipe bomb outside the house near the sidewalk at around 5 p.m.. Upon discovery of the device, he flagged down a passing fire truck. Firefighters called for Fairfield police to respond.

Police shut down Travis Blvd. in both directions and evacuated a CVS Pharmacy across the street from the location as a safety measure, said Bagos.

The Yolo County bomb squad was called in and rendered the device safe. They also searched the property to ensure there were no more explosive devices in the vicinity.

Bagos revealed that residents of the home had found a similar device at the residence one day earlier, at which time a family member unscrewed the device and emptied its contents into a trash can.
